On 30 August 2019, PNOC Renewables Corp (PNOC RC) and the City Government of Baguio formalized their joint commitment to find solutions to Baguio City’s garbage problem. The organizations executed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the PNOC RC office for the undertaking of a detailed feasibility study of a Waste-to-Energy (WTE) facility in Baguio City.

PNOC RC was represented by President and CEO John Arenas while Mayor Benjamin Magalong signed in behalf of the Baguio City. WTE is a widely-used technology to treat municipal waste while providing a stable source of electricity in other developed countries such as Japan and Germany. The study aims to determine if WTE is applicable in the local setting and what technology or set of technologies would be appropriate in Baguio City.
