PNOC Renewables Corporation, in partnership with the Local Government of Naga in Cebu, inaugurated the 100kWp Solar Rooftop Project on April 20, 2018.

This is a pioneering project of PNOC RC in a local government unit as it expands its Solar PV program in government agencies outside Metro Manila and reaches out to local governments that share its vision of renewable energy development. Situated at the Enan Chiong Activity Center (ECAC), the 100kWp solar PV installation will generate clean and renewable electricity which will supply 28% of the total power requirements of the Naga City Hall. In addition to the energy savings that the project is expected to provide, approximately 106 tons of avoided carbon dioxide could also be derived annually.

The inauguration ceremony was held at the Val Hall 2020, and was attended by distinguished personalities from Cebu: Mayor Kristine Vanessa Chiong and the members of the City Council, Congressman of the 1st District of Cebu Gerald Anthony V. Gullas Jr., DILG Region VII Assistant Director Elias F. Fernandez, DOE Visayas Field Office Director Saul S. Gonzales, and Landbank Plaza Independencia Branch Assistant Vice President Vivian Bisnar. PNOC RC on the other hand was represented by its Board Director Evelyn M. Paulino, President and CEO John J. Arenas, and Vice President for Legal and Corporate Affairs, Josephine Cassandra J. Cui.

In her statement, Mayor Chiong said that she is proud to showcase the Solar PV Rooftop Project as her local government’s contribution to the Philippines’ international commitment to mitigate climate change. DOE Visayas Director Gonzales also gave his support to the project. Such undertaking, if replicated in other areas on a massive scale, would help reduce the need to build additional power plants and transmission infrastructures required by the country’s growing economy. President Arenas thanked Naga, Cebu, for the opportunity to expand outside Metro Manila. He is optimistic that similar partnerships could be forged with other LGUs through the financial assistance of funding institutions such as Landbank, which expressed interest in such projects.
