Project Location: Valencia, Negros Oriental

Project Description:

The Okoy Hydropower Project is a run-of-the-river type hydropower development along Okoy River. It will be located in Barangay Palinpinon, Valencia, Negros Oriental.

The project has a potential capacity of 11 MW and is estimated to generate about 24.91 GWh of electricity per year.

The proposed project will be connected to the Visayas grid. Power generated will be sold to the local electric cooperatives and industries. This shall benefit households, institutions, commercial and industrial consumers of the island of Negros and other islands in the Visayas.

Project Status as of June 2011:

The Okoy project was bundled with Siaton project into one consultancy contract for the conduct of feasibility study and this was awarded to Engineering & Development Corporation of the Philippines (EDCOP). So far, Okoy project has the same status as that of Siaton wherein socio-economic survey and information/education campaign with the local government units were already completed. Likewise, EDCOP completed the initial water flow measurement and presented the peaking and non-peaking design scheme for both Siaton and Okoy. EDCOP is also currently undertaking preliminary activities, e.g., IEC, in line with the preparation for Environment Impact Assessment of the project.
