To support the government's goal of boosting the country's level of energy self-sufficiency and mitigating climate change, PNOC RC will promote, develop, and implement projects utilizing new and renewable energy sources:
PNOC RC was awarded eleven (11) service contracts for hydropower projects by the Department of Energy on 23 October 2009
In the long-term, PNOC RC envisions wind power as supplying a sizable amount of renewable energy. Several sites in Mt. Redondo, Zambales and Puerto Galera are under negotiation with interested partners.
The Philippines remains second only to the United States in the amount of power generated from geothermal resources. There are still large numbers of geothermal areas for development, which are widely distributed throughout the archipelago.
To help reach the government's goal of being the number one geothermal power producer in the world, PNOC RC has given high priority to the exploration and development of geothermal energy projects.
PNOC RC is negotiating for two (2) frontier geothermal sites and also submitted bids for two (2) more sites in the recent Philippine Energy Contracting Round (PECR).
Being an agricultural country, biomass could be a good source of renewable energy. Converting wastes to energy would solve the problems of garbage and green house gas emissions. Currently, the company is conducting due diligence on several projects such as cogeneration project using coco waste as feedstock, municipal waste to power project, biofuel with cogeneration power project utilizing sugarcane as principal feedstock and sweet sorghum and cassava as secondary feedstocks.
The company integrates Clean Development Mechanisms on the company's hydropower, geothermal, solar, wind, biomass and waste-to-energy projects.
PNOC RC gives importance to its moral obligations and plans to undertake Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities/projects in its areas of operations. Social acceptance being vital to its business, the company believes that establishing strategic partnerships among the different sectors of the host communities shall provide long term social and economic benefits to all.
